Thiago should not want to extend his contract with FC Bayern. If he were to leave early, the Bavarians in midfield would have to reequip. With Kai Havertz?

Will he leave early, not until 2021 – or will he extend his contract after all?

Thiago has a contract with FC Bayern that is ready to be signed until 2023, but has been hesitant to sign it for weeks, even though head coach Hansi Flick is determined to keep it.

Why? According to Sport Bild, the 29-year-old Spaniard has decided to leave Bayern early despite his contract running until 2021. Detailed backgrounds are unclear.

According to SPORT1 information, Thiago is actually thinking of leaving Munich. However, this has not yet been fully decided. Within the club there is a vague hope that he will decide to stay after all.

Can Havertz replace Thiago?
If Thiago does leave this summer – another option would be a replacement next year – the Bavarians will probably have to upgrade the centre. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are seeded, but the latter has had to deal with injuries from time to time in the past. Javi Martínez and Corentin Tolisso are among the sales candidates, Michael Cuisance still needs time.

A possible replacement for Thiago is therefore all the more urgent: Kai Havertz, should the jewel of Bayer Leverkusen decide to switch to the Bavarians – 2021 at the latest.

But can Havertz replace Thiago?

The 37-time Spanish international is at home in the depths of central midfield. Although Havertz is the much more offensive player compared to Thiago, he has proved sufficiently that he can handle the six, the eight and the ten-point position. Havertz completed 35 percent of his minutes of action this season in attacking midfield. Most recently he even acted five times as centre forward for the injured Kevin Volland.
