CL final in Munich postponed

The 2022 finals of the premier class will not take place in Munich as planned. However, the Bavarian capital will be the host in another year.

The final of the Champions League 2022 should actually take place in Munich.

But due to the Corona pandemic and the new decisions of the UEFA executive committee, this will not happen.

Because this year’s final and the quarter and semi-finals of the premier league in Lisbon are on the rise, the actual host Istanbul will be awarded the 2021 final as compensation – and all other dates will also be postponed by a year.

The 2022 final will therefore be played in St. Petersburg – and Munich will host the 2023 final. London, in turn, will host the 2024 final.

The same applies to the Europa League, where Gdansk will be the final venue for the Europa League 2021 due to the cancellation of the 2020 final.

Bayern with bad memories
Munich will host the CL finals for the fourth time in 2023. The last memory is anything but nice, at least for FC Bayern. On 19 May 2012, the German record champions lost their “Final Dahoam” in a bitter way in a penalty shoot-out against FC Chelsea.

The last final match of the Champions League in Germany so far will take place in Berlin in 2015. At that time FC Barcelona won 3-1 against Juventus Turin.
