For Bernd Leno the season in the Premier League has ended prematurely. The FC Arsenal goalkeeper is out of the game for a longer period due to a knee injury.

For German national goalkeeper Bernd Leno of FC Arsenal, the season in the English Premier League has probably ended, but the 28-year-old has been spared the feared serious injury.

As the Gunners announced on Tuesday evening, Leno suffered a moderately severe ligament strain in his right knee in Saturday’s league match at Brighton & Hove Albion. In four to six weeks the ex-Leverkusen player is expected to return to full training.

Leno had collided with Neal Maupay in the Brighton defeat (1:2) when intercepting a cross and twisted his knee. The goalkeeper, who was initially suspected of having torn a cruciate ligament, was carried off the pitch in pain.
