Coach flies to imitation ref

Javier Aguirre, coach of La Liga tailenders FC Leganes, sees red in the final seconds of the game against FC Barcelona. The reason for this is curious.

Curious sending-off in the Spanish La Liga: For former Mexican national football coach Javier Aguirre, now on the sidelines for tail-enders CD Leganes, the game ended a little earlier than expected on Tuesday evening with leaders FC Barcelona (0:2).

Because the 61-year-old imitated the referee’s whistle, he received a red card from referee Juan Martinez Munuera and had to leave the interior of the stadium seconds before the “real” final whistle.

Aguirre is a repeat offender

Already in the previous course of the game Aguirre had exhibited his art of whistling several times and was subsequently admonished by the impartial. As stated in the referee’s report, this was done with the intention of deliberately confusing the players.

Aguirre, who had already caused a stir in 2013 as coach of Espanyol Barcelona with a similar move, will most likely face a suspension from a match.
