The break between the cup final and the Champions League continuation will be a challenge for FC Bayern. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reveals the plans.

The championship title in the bag, the triple already in sight: At FC Bayern, after the all-important 1-0 victory at Werder Bremen, which was decisive for the championship, the view is already going forward.

The cup final against Bayer Leverkusen is scheduled for July 4, and the knockout phase of the Champions League will be played out in August. UEFA will announce more detailed information on Wednesday afternoon.

“For now, we are all assuming that we will still play the second leg of the round of sixteen against Chelsea,” said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Tuesday evening at Sky: “It is not yet known whether we will be able to play this in Munich or have to play on a neutral pitch. After that, I hope we qualify for the quarter finals.”

As a reminder: The Munich team had won the first leg in London 3-0 before the corona break.

Short holiday for the Meister-Bavaria
But what would happen afterwards? And above all: How do the people of Munich intend to bridge the break from the beginning of July to the beginning of August?

“We will then prepare for it. We’ll have a break of about four weeks from 4 July, when the Cup Final is over,” Rummenigge calculated, before revealing that “the coach will, as it now stands, allow the players a short break of 12 days.

It was to be expected that the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Champions League would be played in a single knock-out match in a kind of final tournament in Lisbon.
