The sponsorship contract with Adidas expires at the end of June. Mesut Özil wants to use this opportunity to establish his own brand. With M10 he wants to expand his current commitment.
Mesut Özil is strengthening his business activities outside of his own sporting career.
After his sponsorship contract with Adidas expires at the end of June, Arsenal star Özil wants to take the opportunity to further establish his own brand M10. “Mesut will be 32 years old in October,” his advisor Erkut Sogut explains the situation in The Athletic. “He knows that if he signs another two or three-year contract now, it could be valid for the rest of his active playing career.”
The former German international, who played 101 games in the Bundesliga for FC Schalke 04 and SV Werder Bremen, is thus following a long-standing strategy of building up his own lifestyle and sportswear brand.
Another step in a long-term strategy
This also includes the foundation of our own eSports team – M10 ESPORTS. “He has his own eSports team; they have their own jerseys,” Sogut sees this as another building block of a future Özil empire.
Now, the 2014 World Champion wants to use the last years of his career to push ahead with these plans: “He wants to have the freedom to advertise these things the way he wants, as long as he still has the platform that his playing career offers,” his advisor continued.
The 32-year-old has also recently opened his own online store and wants to use it as a platform for his products. The current focus is on casual clothing, as well as expanding the range of caps, T-shirts and hoodies.
Özil ends career without a shoe contract
Which shoes Özil wants to wear for the rest of his career on the pitch has not yet been decided. Although he is currently in talks about a brand partnership in order to launch some limited edition M10 sneakers, he has no plans to launch his own football shoe.
