Basler takes on Werder stars

Werder Bremen is also in frighteningly bad shape at the re-start. Mario Basler takes the players at SPORT1 to his chest – and paints a gloomy scenario.

The bare numbers are scary.

12 of the past 15 Bundesliga matches lost, for the first time after 25 matches in a Bundesliga season only 18 points on the account. Disastrous 17 goals scored against by standards (league high), 21 points lost after a lead.

The bitter realisation: Even after the Bundesliga re-start last weekend, nothing has improved at Werder Bremen.

Coach Florian Kohfeldt’s team continues to occupy the penultimate place in the table after the 25th matchday. With nine matches still to be played, including a catch-up game with Eintracht Frankfurt, the gap to the relegation spot is already five points. The second relegation after 1980 is coming closer and closer.

After two and a half years in office, the Green-Whites are back where Kohfeldt took them over in autumn 2017: in the penultimate place in the standings.
