BVB victory: Malaga wants justice

Some victories you never forget – and some defeats hurt forever. Malaga’s boss is finally demanding justice after a memorable duel in 2013.

It was a football miracle that could probably no longer exist in this form today.

On 9 April 2013, Borussia Dortmund reached the semi-finals of the Champions League after a sensational last-minute victory over FC Málaga.

Two goals in injury time, boundless jubilation among the black and yellow team – and absolute bewilderment among the guests from Spain.

Not only because their ticket to the next round was taken away from them in the shortest possible time, but also because things were not quite right.

The decisive goal for the 3:2 came from a double offside situation. But there was no video proof at that time, the game was lost. Málaga have still not recovered from this shock seven years later.

This is proven by a tweet from club owner Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, who spoke on the anniversary of the “Miracle of Dortmund”.

“Everyone knows what happened against Malaga,” the 50-year-old wrote: “We demand the opening of international investigations. Fair and transparent. We demand justice. Respect for Malaga!”
