In England’s football, the clocks stand still because of the coronavirus. The players’ union PFA wants to sit down with the upper leagues and consult.

The English players’ union PFA has called for a crisis meeting with the Premier League and its three subordinate professional leagues.

According to a statement by the Professional Footballers’ Association, the financial consequences of the corona crisis for the clubs and players on the island are to be discussed there. The PFA is the oldest union for professional athletes and has 4000 members.

Numerous clubs have already asked their players to forego salary in view of the pandemic, the PFA statement said.

The first publicly announced case was that of the second division club Birmingham City on Tuesday. The Blues had asked professionals earning more than £6,000 a week to waive half of their salary over the next four months.

The money saved is to be paid back as soon as the league resumes its current suspension until April 30.

In its statement, the PFA called for joint action by all parties involved. In addition, questions of training operations and contractual implications must be clarified. In England’s football, the clocks stand still because of the coronavirus.
