The European Football Association is reacting to the Corona pandemic – and its impact on football. But ManCity does not have to get its hopes up.

The European football association UEFA wants to relax the rules of financial fair play in the wake of the corona pandemic.

As a first step, UEFA postponed the deadline for the submission of the clubs’ financial balance sheets from 31 March to the end of Arpil.

In a statement, the association made it clear that no club need fear for its participation in the European Cup if it should get into difficulties due to the current situation. “This principle is already provided for in the regulations of the Champions League and Financial Fair Play,” the statement said.

In the event of incidents that are beyond the control of the clubs, the special circumstances would be taken into account in UEFA’s assessment.

No hope for Manchester City
Because the umbrella association is aware of the problems.

“The rules of financial fair play allow clubs to lose only 30 million euros over a period of three seasons – and only if an owner assumes liability for it. Due to the suspension of the game, many clubs in Europe may be left without TV or sponsorship income, which would make participation (in the European Cup, note) impossible.

However, Manchester City will not benefit from this relaxation of the rules. UEFA had excluded the English champions from the European Cup for two seasons for breaches of financial fair play. The alleged offences, which are now being investigated by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport, are said to have been committed between 2012 and 2016.The European Football Association is reacting to the Corona pandemic – and its impact on football.
