Break-in at Spurs-Profi Vertonghen

Armed men with balaclavas break into the estate of Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen – his wife and children are inside.

Jan Vertonghen was broken into during the second leg of the round of 16 in the Champions League by Tottenham Hotspur at RB Leipzig.

According to BBC reports, four men armed with knives and balaclavas broke into the 32-year-old’s London estate. At the time, Vertongen’s wife and children were also in the house.

“We have supported Jan and his family during this terribly traumatic time. We encourage anyone who has information to come forward to help the police with their investigation,” a Spurs spokesman is quoted as saying.

According to the police, the four burglars had already left the scene of the crime when the officers arrived and had taken “a number of items”.

“No one was hurt. There have been no arrests yet, the investigation is continuing,” said a spokesman for the Met Police.

Tottenham had been eliminated from the Champions League by a 3-0 win in Leipzig, Vertonghen was sitting on the bench.

The Belgian defender and his family are the latest victims of a series of burglaries of prominent footballers.

Among other things, Sadio Mane had been burglarised when the striker played for FC Bayern last year when he was playing for FC Liverpool in the Champions League.
