In Serie A and the Champions League, Atlanta Bergamo will meet Bergamo at will. However, even the Italian top offensive gritted its teeth on one keeper.

Atalanta Bergamo have surprisingly congratulated Kyle Walker on Twitter after his quarter-final appearance against Valencia.

The Manchester City professional was the only Champions League goalkeeper to save all the shots from the Bergamo attack.

So far, so respectfully. But what makes it so strange is that Walker is not a goalkeeper but a defender.

Walker: Substitutes for Ederson and Bravo
In their premiere season in the premier class Bergamo reached the quarter finals surprisingly and with a lot of offensive power at the first attempt.

Neither the goalkeepers of Valencia, Donetsk nor Zagreb could keep the box completely clean against Bergamo.

But there was still the duel in the group phase with ManCity in November. After Ederson’s injury-related substitution and the red card for substitute Claudio Bravo, Walker was promoted to keeper – with success.

In the remaining ten minutes of the game, Walker saved his Citizens with two saves, including a defused free-kick that earned him a 1-1 draw with the Champions League newcomers.

“Respect bro”
After eight games and seven different opponents, only the defender on the bench has a 100 per cent defence against Atalanta.

The Italians immediately acknowledged this in a tweet and paid respect to Walker.

Another curiosity: Walker was the first English player since Ben Hamer to score a goal in the Champions League for Leicester City 2016.

Looking ahead to the European Championship, one could winkingly say: Kyle, apply for the historically problematic position of England’s national goalkeeper! In Serie A and the Champions League, Atlanta Bergamo will meet Bergamo at will.
