HSV legend Uwe Seeler stays in his house during the rampant coronavirus. He misses football the most during this time.
As an 83-year-old, HSV legend Uwe Seeler belongs to the coronavirus risk group.
For this reason, the 1966 runner-up in the world championship stays at his home in Schleswig-Holstein with his wife Ilka.
In an interview with Bild, Seeler talks about his current situation, the longing for football and the selfishness of society.
Seeler: “My wife makes sure that I don’t freak out
What the native of Hamburg does against boredom? “I read a lot, talk on the phone, watch TV. Or – as I already said – I am in the garden. I spend my time like so many others who are at home. And my wife Ilka makes sure that I don’t freak out here,” says the 83-year-old.
Even though Seeler is not afraid of the virus, the couple gets help from the family – especially the grandchildren are very helpful with the shopping.
Seeler is very much missing football – great concern for the clubs
The former striker is concerned that all professional leagues are currently suspending their games.
“I really miss football. I’m also very worried about the survival of the clubs. I think everyone should be prepared to compromise and, if necessary, cut back a little,” suggests Seeler.
Seeler: “Convinced that some will not make it”
The 83-year-olds are annoyed by the selfishness of some people who do not follow the rules during this time.
“Unfortunately, I am convinced that some will not succeed. But selfishness is really out of place at the moment. We must show solidarity,” Seeler appeals to society.
