For the time being, Spanish professional football is suspending play for the next two matchdays. One of the reasons is a Corona case at Real Madrid.

The Spanish league is suspending play for the time being due to the corona virus.

As La Liga announced in an official statement on Thursday noon, the next two matchdays of the two top Spanish soccer leagues have been cancelled for the time being.

The reason for this is, among other things, a corona case at Real Madrid, and there are also suspected cases at other clubs. After 14 days and the end of the quarantine, the situation will be re-evaluated.

Professional basketball player infected – Kroos & Co. affected
At Real, a basketball professional has been infected with the corona virus. The club made the official announcement. According to LeSexta, the pro is Trey Thompkins of the United States.

Since the basketball players share the facilities on the training ground “Ciudad Real Madrid” with the soccer players, they may have been infected. That is why Toni Kroos and his colleagues have to go into quarantine.

Since the health authorities have ordered 14 days for these cases, the return match in the Champions League against Manchester City next week will also be affected. It now seems impossible to hold the match.

The same applies to the match between Juventus Turin and Olympique Lyon on the same day. Juve defender Daniele Rugani has also tested positive.

EuroLeague also stops
Spain is the second major football league after Italy in which no more matches are being played for the time being. This was preceded by a meeting of the national association and the Spanish players’ union AFE.

“In view of the circumstances at Real and possible positive tests with players from other clubs, the league feels compelled to take this step,” it was said. Real had played at Betis Sevilla on Sunday (1:2).

The Royal’s training session scheduled for Thursday has already been cancelled. The club closed its training centre and also advised all staff to move into quarantine.
