Actually, Manchester City and Arsenal are scheduled to play their catch-up Premier League games on Wednesday evening. On matchday, the match is cancelled at short notice.

At Arsenal FC, fear of the corona virus is spreading.

On Wednesday evening the Gunners were supposed to play the away game at Manchester City, but the game was cancelled. This was announced by the clubs on Wednesday morning. The reason: some of the Arsenal pros have been quarantined.

Arsenal’s cautiousness after Olympiakos duel
The background is that Evangelos Marinakis, President of Olympiakos Piraeus and owner of Nottingham Forest, tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. Marinakis had announced via social networking sites that he had been infected with the corona virus.

Arsenal played a European League match against Olympiakos at Emirates Stadium 13 days ago and some of the club’s players from north London are said to have met the Greek after the match. The Gunners did not disclose which one it was.

The club considers the risk of infection of one of their players on the club’s own website to be low, but wants to adhere to strict government guidelines. These guidelines stipulate that people who have been in contact with an infected player must undergo a 14-day quarantine.

The players who had met Marinakis and four club staff members who had sat next to the 52-year-old will therefore remain at home until at least Friday. Arsenal will then expect all the professionals and staff to return home safe and sound, the club said.

The cancellation is the first cancellation in Premier League history resulting from a medical emergency. In the United Kingdom, 382 people have been infected with the corona virus so far, six of whom have died.

Catch-up game after catch-up game
Olympiakos are to receive English club Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Europa League on Thursday in camera. The European football union UEFA had rejected a request by the Wolves for a relocation.

When Arsenal will play in Manchester is still open. Originally, the game of the 28th matchday had to be postponed due to the final participation of the “Citizens” in the League Cup on March 1 (2:1 against Aston Villa).
