Atletico Madrid and FC Sevilla are going strong in the first half. Four goals and big VAR chaos cause discussions.

There was a lot going on in the first 45 minutes between Atlético Madrid and FC Sevilla.

Not only did the fans get to see four goals in the first half of the 2:2 (2:2) draw.

In between, the 60,422 spectators at Wanda Metropolitano had to wait several minutes for a decision from referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez several times.

VAR chaos twice at Atletico against Sevilla
But first things first: Luuk de Jong from Gladbach had put Seville ahead in the 19th minute.

After a supposed handball by Sevilla’s Diego Carlos in his own penalty area and a subsequent foul on Atletico youngster Joao Felix in the 26th minute, the impartial player then discussed the matter with his video assistants for a few minutes before watching the scene on the edge of the pitch.

In the end Hernandez Hernandez decided to take a penalty kick. Alvaro Morata started in the 32nd minute and equalised the score 1-1.

A little later Joao Felix was on the scene. The 126 million newcomer completed a preliminary work of Koke without any VAR support, but with good luck to the lead for Atleti (36th).

But this was by no means the end of the first run. Because in the 38th minute there was a controversial scene in the penalty area of the “Colchoneros” this time.

Lucas Ocampos was knocked down there, but then the referee allowed himself a few minutes again until he finally pointed.

The foul did not miss this opportunity and finally equalised in the 43rd minute to make it 2-2 for Sevilla.

But in the second round it was much quieter. Atletico had more of the game, but missed the opportunity to convert this superiority into goals.

So Diego Simeone’s team faded to fifth place, while FC Sevilla consolidated their third place.

FC Barcelona temporarily returned to the top of the table with a narrow 1-0 (0-0) win over Real Sociedad.
