The catch-up game in the Bundesliga between Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1 FC Köln is on the line. A decision is to follow on Tuesday.

A decision on whether the Rhenish derby between Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1 FC Köln will be played on Wednesday (from 18.30 in the live ticker) will not be made until Tuesday afternoon or afternoon.

This was stated by a spokesman for the city of Mönchengladbach. “The situation is completely open,” he stressed.

Due to the corona virus, there are currently discussions about holding the game as a “ghost game” or a complete cancellation. The meeting in Borussia-Park had been cancelled in the first attempt at the beginning of February due to a storm.

Last Saturday, the Westschlager between Gladbach and Borussia Dortmund (1:2) had been played without any major restrictions. Only fans from the coronavirus risk region Heinsberg had been asked to refrain from visiting Borussia-Park.

Heldt: “Consistently inconsistent
Cologne’s sports director Horst Heldt criticized the current approach. “I find it consistently inconsistent with what we are doing right now. We are acting inconsistently in many respects,” the former international said at Monday’s press conference.

On Sunday, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn had recommended the cancellation of events with more than 1000 spectators. “Major events naturally have the tendency to have a lot of coverage. Therefore we will now (…) implement this advice here in North Rhine-Westphalia”, said NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet in the ARD programme “Bericht aus Berlin”.

DFL managing director Christian Seifert had made it clear in a statement on Sunday that there was no question “that the season must be played through to the middle of May as planned, in order to determine who will be promoted and relegated as well as the participants for the international competitions”. This was the only way to give clubs and the DFL planning security for the coming season despite difficult circumstances.
