Ancelotti jokes about expulsion

Carlo Ancelotti flies red off the pitch against Manchester United. The Everton coach takes it with a sense of humour – just like an impending suspension at ex-club Chelsea.

Former Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti commented with humorous words on his red card when his FC Everton team beat England’s record-breaking Manchester United 1-1 on Sunday.

“It was not the first time and it won’t be the last,” said the Liverpool team manager.

The Italian soccer teacher had had intensive discussions with the referee about a goal not given by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. “I was not disrespectful,” Ancelotti stressed, “something like that can happen at the end of a game, I was a little nervous. Maybe the referee was too, we had a friendly exchange. No problem at all.”

Asked about an impending suspension for next Sunday’s match at Chelsea FC, Ancelotti wavered: “If I were suspended, it would be disappointing. But the stands at Stamford Bridge are really close to the edge of the field, I’ll be there.”
