In the chasing duel against Leicester, Manchester City celebrates a narrow victory. Gabriel Jesus scores the golden goal only ten minutes before the final whistle.

Manchester City have won the chasing pack in the Premier League.

The reigning champions defeated third place Leicester City 1-0 on 27 Matchday in what was not exactly a high-profile but exciting match, reducing the gap to leaders Liverpool FC to 19 points, at least temporarily. The Reds will be able to catch up with West Ham United on Monday.

Brazilian Gabriel Jesus scored the goal of the day at the King Power Stadium, with Sergio Agüero conceding a handball penalty.

Leicester denied a clear penalty
The first chance of the game, however, came after eight minutes when Jamie Vardy was on foot for the home side, but the former international’s shot only hit the post. On the other side, Ilkay Gündogan (17) gave away a free-stand in front of Kasper Schmeichel after a pass from Sergio Agüero.

The Citizens were lucky in the 29th minute. Kevin De Bruyne received the ball on his arm from a James Maddison free-kick, but both referee Paul Tierney and the Video Assistant Referee overlooked the Belgian’s clear-cut handball.

The matter was again contentious just before half-time, when Ederson cleared Kelechi Iheanacho in the Citizens’ goal (39). The striker headed in from a cross from Maddison and was hit hard by the Brazilian who was jumping towards him. However, as in De Bruyne’s handball, the referee’s whistle remained mute.

Agüero fails from the point
Also in the second half the Foxes got the better start. Harvey Barnes, who came into play for the battered Iheanacho, missed a big chance to take the lead a few seconds after the restart, but the Skyblues were not impressed by this and came to a big chance after 53 minutes through De Bruyne. But the shot of the former Wolfsburg player was defused by Schmeichel with a brilliant parry.
