After various turbulences FC Malaga is considered to be the Hollywood club of Spain. Now an entry by George Clooney could bring even more glamour to Andalusia.

After various financial turbulences FC Malaga is considered the Hollywood club in Spain’s football, now the Andalusians could officially live up to this reputation: As the sports daily AS reports, the media group of acting star George Clooney wants to take over the club, which has slipped into the second division.

Antonio Aguilera, president of the association of small investors of FC Malaga, confirmed that the American company has deposited its interest with the current main owner Abdullah Al Thani.

The Qatari, who acquired a majority stake in the club in 2010 for a rumoured 36 million euros, is said to have demanded 100 million euros for his shares.

Al Thani had initially pumped a lot of money into his toy and signed aged stars such as Ruud van Nistelrooy, Roque Santa Cruz, Javier Saviola and Martin Demichelis. In 2011/12, Malaga finished fourth in the Primera Division and the following year only narrowly missed out on Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

After that, however, the sheikh cut off the money, and in 2018 the club was relegated to last place in the table.
