Jürgen Klinsmann had apparently suggested to Hertha BSC to make spectacular new commitments in winter. Among others, Mesut Özil was under discussion.

Jürgen Klinsmann has been history at Hertha BSC since last week, but his work is still resonating.

The kicker now reports that the ex-coach had suggested spectacular new commitments internally.

For example, Mesut Özil (FC Arsenal) and Lukas Podolski, whose contract with Vissel Kobe (Japan) was not renewed, were to come in winter. The former national coach was also interested in Emre Can, and his son Jonathan Klinsmann was also due to return to Berlin.

In the end, none of these transfers worked out. Özil and Can, who moved from Juventus Turin to Borussia Dortmund, would not have been able to be financed by Hertha in terms of their salaries.

Hertha invests 77 million euros
Podolski preferred to go to Antalyaspor in Turkey, goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann stayed with St. Gallen in Switzerland.

Nevertheless, Hertha was the team that invested the most in the winter transfer period worldwide, with spending of 77 million euros. Among others, Krzysztof Piatek from AC Milan came in for 22 million euros.

Klinsmann resigned last Tuesday, and since then the former co-coach Alexander Nouri has been responsible for Hertha.
