Cologne – The Bavarians are dispatching the 1st FC Cologne. Nevertheless not everyone is satisfied with the record champion. Especially the performance in the second round annoys players and coaches.

After the 4:1 victory in Cologne, the Bayern bosses probably needed to talk!

At 17.32 Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Herbert Hainer first made their way to the dressing room, followed two minutes later by Oliver Kahn. Afterwards, there was an intensive exchange with head coach Hansi Flick and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic in front of the cabin door.

Possible content of the approximately ten-minute conversation: the renewed Bavarian break-in in the second half.

Bayern lose the thread in the second half
After the break, when the Bavarians went into a 3-0 lead after outstanding attacking football and goals from Robert Lewandowski (3), Kingsley Coman (5) and Serge Gnabry (12), there was a heavy setback. The Bavarians lost the thread and made the unsettled Cologners strong by carelessness in the defence out of the blue.

Jhon Cordoba scored two offside goals shortly after the change (46./55.), Mark Uth, who scored for the 1:4 final score (70.), and Anthony Modeste had further big chances. “We can be happy that Manu saved us twice more,” said Thomas Müller, one of the best on the pitch with two goals.

Due to the renewed hanging halftime the Bayern stars sounded the alarm after the game!

Müller became clear: “The first half of our game was tongue-tied. We combined strongly, it was technically totally clean. Afterwards, what had already been observed in the last games occurred: We hid ourselves and made ourselves too comfortable! Especially we offensive players don’t really offer ourselves anymore. That doesn’t really speak for us.”

Neuer also put his finger in the wound. “We started impressively. But then we started to take it down again. We allowed too many chances,” criticised the Bayern captain. “We have to chalk it up to the fact that we didn’t continue to play so consistently and dominantly. That annoys me. We are making life difficult for ourselves as a result”.
