FC Barcelona regain the top of the Real Madrid standings. In the debut of new coach Quique Setién, Lionel Messi is once again the match winner.

Spanish champions FC Barcelona successfully defended their top spot in La Liga in their first match under coach Quique Setién. However, in the comeback of national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen after knee problems, the Catalans struggled to win 1-0 (0-0) against FC Granada.

World footballer Lionel Messi (76th) redeemed Barcelona in a one-sided game after Hacken’s preliminary work by former Munich and Leverkusen-based Arturo Vidal. This was Messi’s 16th consecutive year in the league, the series having begun in 2005.

The visitors hardly took part in the game and could no longer withstand the constant pressure from the home side shortly after yellow-red against German Sanchez (70.). 61-year-old Setién was signed on Monday to succeed Ernesto Valverde.
